ESF Catches Summer Olympic Fever!

The 2008 Camp Season featured the Summer Olympic Games at each ESF Camp location. The action was non-stop from the Opening Ceremonies to the Closing Ceremonies. Even though a team "Won", campers and Team members were truly united in friendship and fun! Click below to read more about how some Sites made the Olympics come to life.

Diane Sessions, CHC:

This summer we had our Olympics and although the whole camp divided up into three teams, red, blue, and green everyone united to show their true ESF spirit.  The excitement could be felt all over campus.  The opening ceremony was amazing from the cheering, to the passing of the torch, to the appearance of Mr. Respectacular, to the releasing of the origami doves.  Each day campers were excited to participate in that day’s events showing off their sportsmanship, teamwork, and ESF spirit.  They looked forward to finding out the points posted on the scoreboard and cheering on their fellow teams.  Even parents couldn’t wait to come through carline to check out the scoreboard and hear about the day.  It was definitely one of my favorite weeks at camp. No matter what your job was at camp whether it was a Production Assistant, Administrative Specialist, a Director or a Counselor, everyone showed their Olympic spirit by either wearing the team colors or by participating in a fun event.

Scott Rourke, LV:

The ESF LV Olympics were awesome and they truly united all the camps, including Aquatics. The most memorable moment was the opening ceremonies when Laura Callahan (Asst. SR Camp Director) ran the torch in.  It was passed to a representative from each camp (Day, Senior, Sports) and then it was run down to the pool to be passed to Aquatics, which had its own version of the opening ceremonies with guards diving through the colored Olympic rings. This was the beginning of an amazing camp-wide event that truly united all campers and Team members.

Dani Mezzino, Dream Camp at Girard College:

Our Olympic Rings would be my favorite memory from our 2009 Dream Camp Olympic week.  It was over 100 degrees outside, yet all our campers marched proudly to closing ceremonies to represent their team color.  As we marched on to the open field, I got chills as I looked behind me, the torch being held strong, and all of our campers walking as team.  AMAZING!  We were able to get all of the campers out into the rings (not the easiest task), only to realize our crane to take the picture wasn’t there.  Our back up plan was put into place and we found a core team of campers and specialists to create the rings, while the rest of the campers headed inside to get cool.  It was a true testament to the spirit of togetherness and determination that the Olympics brings out in everyone!
